LMI was sold in 2014, however, Jim has opened a new clinic in conjunction with Progressive Medical in Southern California in 2014.

Andrew HeymanAndrew Heyman, MD, MHSA
Chief Medical Officer

Andrew Heyman, MD MHSA is an internationally recognized expert in Integrative Medicine. He is currently the Program Director of Integrative and Metabolic Medicine at The George Washington University. Prior to assuming this role, he spent 16 years at the University of Michigan, serving to build one of the largest and most successful academic-based Integrative Medicine programs in the United States.

In 1990, he received formal training in Five-element Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine, during which time he developed an interest in increasing access of natural therapies to underserved populations while partnering with the University of Pennsylvania. He continued this work with Jim Gordon, MD at the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington DC exploring the intersection between public health, at risk groups, and alternative therapies.

Dr. Heyman eventually went on to receive a Masters in Health Services Administration at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and upon graduation, became the administrator for the University of Michigan Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Center where he was responsible for administering a $7 million NIH grant to research alternative therapies for cardiovascular diseases. The center was one of the first in the country to place alternative therapies and their scientific examination in an academic context.

Dr. Heyman has held several leadership positions in the field of Integrative Medicine. He was the national clinical working group co-chair of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine for 4 years, a collaboration of 57 North American universities involved in Integrative Medicine. He is the online editor for the Journal of Men’s Health in the section of Integrative Medicine, and he also holds the position of Editor-In-Chief of the Internet Journal of Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine. His research interests include the Stress response and NeuroEndocrinology, Cardiometabolic Disease, Men’s Health and clinical outcomes research methodologies.

Dr. Heyman remains clinically active as well, as the owner of a four-physician integrative medicine practice in Northern Virginia at the Virginia Center for Health and Wellness. He is also the President of Integrative Health Resources, a small group of clinical experts that consults to physicians, health systems and public health professionals seeking to develop wellness, lifestyle and nutrition programs. Finally, Dr. Heyman has been featured on the Discovery Channel, Martha Stewart Living Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, Natural Health Magazine and appeared in many other TV and print venues and is a widely sought after, and celebrated speaker around the world on many Integrative Medicine topics. His teaching approach is described as deeply rooted in scientific evidence, grounded in the clinical reality of expert patient care, and readily accessible to both the new learner and seasoned practitioner alike.

Fritz GeerFritz Geer

Over the past 12 years, Fritz has partnered with Jim LaValle in establishing and growing LaValle Metabolic Institute, Cincinnati, OH  to a nationally recognized integrative care facility, sold in 2014. He also oversaw the business and finance operations of Integrative Health Resources, with his partners Jim LaValle and Andrew Heyman, contracting with various national and international medical education groups, Fortune 100 and other enterprises in the natural supplement and pharmaceutical industries.   Fritz is a graduate of Miami University, with a BS in Business/Marketing. Since graduating, he has founded and funded a number of early stage and startup enterprises in the healthcare, staffing and other industries.

Laura LaValleLaura B. LaValle RDLD
VP Dietetics & Nutrition
Laura oversees diet-related content for the MCE health, nutrition, and wellness library. She is a senior editor, nutrition writer, and has over 20 years of experience in clinical and hospital settings as well as experience in integrative nutrition in both private practice and with sales and education in dietary supplements. Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, is a registered dietitian, and holds a Level 2 certificate of training in Adult Weight Management through the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Marta GrahamMarta Graham, RDN, LD, MS
Director of Wellness Information Services
Marta earned her BS in Dietetics from University of Cincinnati and began her career in Health and Wellness developing and implementing corporate programs for companies including Tri-Health and General Electric in Cincinnati OH, and Carrier Corporation and Niagara Mohawk in Syracuse NY. Marta then worked with the student population as a registered dietitian at Syracuse University and after earning her MS in Information Management she spent the next 10 years in the software industry where she wrote EMR software and developed web-database applications. Marta uses her unique combination of IT and wellness experience to manage both the development and the implementation of MCE’s wellness systems and to develop and oversee website and portal content. She also contributes to our therapeutic diet content and practices as an integrative health dietitian. Marta enjoys running and biking, is a yoga instructor and also enjoys playing the cello and fiddle.

Wendy LemperWendy Lemper, RDN, LD
Metabolic Code Dietitian Nutritionist

Wendy earned her degree in Dietetics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She has always had a passion for helping others achieve optimal health with preventative nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Her professional background includes one-on-one patient assessment and counseling in a doctor’s office and government program, teaching group nutrition and integrative health corporate wellness classes, and creating nutrition education materials. As part of the Metabolic Code team, Wendy develops, writes, and coordinates our diet and nutrition materials, creates our recipes, builds our meal plans, and inputs and manages our diets and materials on the Lifestyle Guidance Portal.

Katherine MattoxKatherine Mattox, RDN, LD
Katherine graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition in 2005. She became a Registered Dietitian after completing her dietetic internship at Cincinnati’s Good Samaritan Hospital in 2006. Katherine has been trained in functional dietetics, the practice of providing patients with dietary recommendations to prevent or amend disease and achieve optimal health and wellness. Her training includes working at LaValle Metabolic Institute, an integrative healthcare practice founded by Jim LaValle, R.Ph., a nationally recognized clinical pharmacist, author, and developer of the Metabolic Code protocol taught to physicians around the world. Katherine belongs to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine. She enjoys continuing her education by listening to webinars, attending healthcare and dietetic conferences and reading popular diet books and blogs. In her free time she enjoys being active outdoors, traveling and cooking delicious meals.

Ernest B. Hawkins
Director of Research

Ernie obtained a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina and then a Masters Degree in Radiopharmacy from the University of New Mexico. After working in various facets of pharmacy for 10 years, including consulting, biotechnological research, hospital, retail and long-term care, he became specialized in integrative medicine, working for several major US dietary supplement manufacturers and developing a quality control program for one of the companies. For the past 20 years, Ernie has partnered with Jim LaValle as a consultant, author and educator, helping create books, monographs, articles and databases involved with integrative medicine. He also helped initiate the Integrative Medicine Program for East Tennessee School of Pharmacy. Ernie is a professional bassoonist and is active in orchestral and chamber music ensembles in Western North Carolina.

Fara-QureshiFarah Qureshi, MPH RDN CLT
Integrative Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Farah earned her Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada where she was born and raised.  She worked as an Experienced  Business Analyst & Consultant in various capacities at companies such as Accenture and Sprint Canada to name a few.  She’s always had an intrinsic passion for nutrition & fitness.  In her spare time she worked part time as a Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor with CanFitPro.  She eventually moved to Southern California where she earned her Master’s Degree with a major in Nutrition at Loma Linda University, in Loma Linda California and completed her didactic/internship training in dietetics in 2008.  During this time she also worked at the Loma Linda Wellness Center performing Wellness Consults/Assessments.  She has worked in clinical hospital settings, a gestational diabetes clinic, The Student Health and Wellness Center at the University of California Irvine, as a Dietitian Consultant in Integrative Corporate Wellness programs, and has done research based health writing for Integrated Health Services with Laura LaValle.  Farah is a certified Fitness Instructor with the American Council on Exercise, a member of The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, & The Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine Practice Group, as well a Certified Leap Therapist.  Farah has worked as Jim LaValles’ Integrative & Functional Nutrition Dietitian and she is also working as an Integrative Dietitian at Metabolic Code with Laura and Jim LaValle.
